General Sawat Addresses Concerns Over Government’s Approach to Call Center Scammers

Bangkok: General Sawat Tasana, Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Military Affairs and State Security, recently discussed the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle call center scams. He emphasized that although the government’s actions might seem slow to some, they are deliberate and careful, aiming to maintain Thailand’s credibility.

According to Thai News Agency, General Sawat acknowledged the recent government announcement regarding the seizure of assets from scam networks. He stated that while the pace of these actions might not match that of other countries like Korea or the US, it is crucial to ensure that actions are taken with caution to avoid unjust consequences. He also mentioned that the Military Committee has not been actively following up on the matter, as they trust the government’s monitoring and resolution efforts.

General Sawat addressed the emergence of photos featuring government officials, including Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraphat, alongside Ben Smith. He highlighted that these officials might not have been aware of any underlying issues at the time the photos were taken. He stressed the importance of fairness and stated that if any connections to scammers are found, legal action should be taken.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, General Sawat expressed confidence that the government has prioritized addressing this issue. He noted that while photographs may not provide clarity on individual actions, the conduct of those involved remains the focal point of the investigation. The judicial process should guide the investigation into any wrongdoing by the Silver Line.
