General Sawat Criticizes Cambodia’s Actions and Praises Thai Government’s Response

Bangkok: General Sawat Tasana, a prominent figure in Thai politics, has strongly criticized Cambodia’s recent actions and praised the Thai government’s response to the escalating tensions between the two countries.

According to Thai News Agency, the Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Military and State Security expressed his views in an interview regarding the ongoing situation on the Thai-Cambodian border.

General Sawat revealed that tensions began to rise on December 7th, when Cambodia initiated attacks towards Thailand, which he described as provoked actions that Thailand could no longer tolerate. He emphasized that Thailand’s response was in line with international rules and aimed at preserving its sovereignty. General Sawat expressed confidence in the Thai military’s ability to respond appropriately to such incidents.

In discussing the failed peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, General Sawat pointed out that maintaining peace requires bilateral cooperation. He noted that while
Thailand has consistently adhered to international rules, Cambodia has continued to provoke, which undermines the peace process. He emphasized that lasting peace is only achievable if both nations comply with their agreements.

General Sawat addressed concerns about potential escalation of the conflict, reiterating that Thai policy seeks to resolve the situation quickly to avoid further inconvenience to the people. He expressed confidence that the international community would understand the context of Cambodia’s actions, comparing their behavior to that of a spoiled child that complains when things do not go their way.

When questioned about the Thai Prime Minister’s role in the situation, General Sawat acknowledged that the Prime Minister and security officials have been continuously coordinating and monitoring developments. He praised the government’s swift and decisive actions, including the deployment of air power, while adhering to international responsibilities and procedures.
