Nakhon Ratchasima: A German man identified as Mr. Matthias Ebner, who had been reportedly attacking dentists in Korat, was discovered dead in his home. Authorities suspect suicide after finding his fingerprints on a knife used in the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, law enforcement from Non Sung Police Station and the Huk 31 Rescue Unit were alerted to the discovery of Mr. Ebner’s body in a single-story residence located in Don Chomphu Subdistrict, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The body was found lying on a bed with a significant neck wound. The room showed signs of disarray, and two dogs were present and guarding the body, necessitating animal control intervention.
Mr. Ebner, aged 41, had a history of violent behavior, including an assault on a female dentist where he inflicted physical harm. His actions had instilled fear among local dental professionals in the region. The assaults began in November 2014 and included threats made via social media, prompting legal complaints and requests for police intervention.
His wife had previously reported that Mr. Ebner had undergone psychiatric treatment in Germany but had discontinued medication, opting instead for marijuana use. This behavior was believed to exacerbate his condition, culminating in aggressive outbursts and physical altercations in several dental clinics. Mr. Ebner was arrested in March and faced charges of assault and property damage, though he was released on bail.
Authorities had been in the process of seeking visa revocation due to his dangerous behavior. Police efforts to have the injured dentist provide a statement were interrupted by Mr. Ebner’s death.
The assistant village headman reported that Mr. Ebner’s wife, unable to reach him from Prachin Buri Province, asked a friend to check on him. The friend discovered the house locked and notified local officials, leading to the discovery of the body.
Pol. Col. Sitthiphon Thimsungnoen of Non Sung Police Station stated that forensic analysis revealed multiple wounds and a knife at the scene, with no signs of struggle, supporting the suicide theory. Mr. Ebner’s history of psychiatric issues was cited as a potential factor in his actions.
