Bangkok: The government has officially announced that the new Wine Tax Fast Track system, designed to streamline the process of reporting wine imports for travelers, will be operational by May 2026. Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed the development plans for this system, which aims to facilitate travelers bringing wine into the country in quantities that exceed 1 liter but do not surpass 10 liters. While these quantities are subject to excise tax, they do not require an import license.
According to Thai News Agency, the Fast Track system will be initially tested at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports' "goods to declare" lanes, followed by expansions to Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, and Phuket airports. This initiative seeks to expedite, make transparent, and efficiently manage tax payments associated with wine imports. Until the system is operational, travelers must continue to use a paper-based import declaration form available at international airport customs checkpoints to pay the necessary excise tax.
The government has issued a caution to the public, urging them not to be deceived by counterfeit websites or applications claiming to offer downloads of the Fast Track system. The system is still under development and is not accessible through any online platform. An official announcement will be made once the system is fully developed and ready for public use.
