Bangkok: The government has refuted claims that government projects funded by the economic stimulus budget have only one bidder. This follows the Comptroller General’s Department’s assurance that all government agencies are required to adhere to established regulations and laws.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, disclosed that a report from the Comptroller General’s Department confirmed the inaccuracy of reports suggesting that certain projects under the 157 billion baht economic stimulus budget have a single bidder who can easily secure contracts. He emphasized that the information presented was incomplete.
The Comptroller General’s Department clarified that all government procurement activities, whether funded by the budget or other sources, must comply with relevant legal frameworks. This compliance is aimed at maximizing benefits for government agencies and ensuring value, transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, and verifiability, as outlined in Section 8 of the Government Procurement and Supplies Management Act B.E. 2560. All government agencies are required to follow all procurement-related regulations within the budget framework to optimize economic benefits during this period.
