Government Enforces E-Cigarette Ban in Schools with New Semester

Bangkok: Strict measures are being implemented by the government to ensure that every area in schools is free of e-cigarettes when the new semester begins. The initiative highlights that any civil servants or officials found to be involved will face severe disciplinary action.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, expressed concerns over the expanding presence of e-cigarettes among children and youths across the country. These devices come in appealing shapes like cartoon characters and art toys, feature enticing scents, and are priced affordably, making them accessible to the younger demographic through targeted online advertising.

Mr. Karom outlined a comprehensive approach to establish an e-cigarette-free environment, particularly in educational institutions and workplaces under government jurisdiction. The Ministry of Education is spearheading efforts to safeguard society from e-cigarettes, focusing on children, youth, and educational staff. The measures include raising awareness about the dangers of e-cigarettes, clearly marking smoke-free zones, and enforcing strict supervision by all levels of command to prevent involvement with e-cigarettes.

In cases where involvement with e-cigarettes is discovered or suspected among civil servants or educational personnel, immediate disciplinary action will be taken. Mr. Karom reiterated the government’s stance that e-cigarette products are both illegal and detrimental to health. He emphasized that any negligence by officials in implementing these measures will result in severe consequences as prescribed by law.
