Government Engages Media for Better Communication on Middle East Conflict

Bangkok: The government held a meeting with media representatives to gather insights on effectively communicating the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Emphasizing the importance of comprehensive information dissemination, the meeting aimed to help the public understand the situation and mitigate panic.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office. She highlighted the need for a unified approach to publicizing information related to the impacts of the Middle East conflict. The minister noted that the conflict affects several countries, including Thailand, with repercussions in energy, economic stability, and the safety of Thai citizens in the region.

The government has prioritized managing the situation and information communication, with the Prime Minister signing an order establishing the Center for Monitoring and Managing the Conflict in the Middle East (CMC). This center aims to ensure efficient and unified responses to the evolving situation.

The minister outlined the government's progress in three main areas: energy management, economic stability, and the safety of Thai citizens. Efforts include ensuring fuel supply, preventing price gouging, and coordinating diplomatic efforts for the evacuation and safety of Thai citizens in high-risk areas.

Further, the minister emphasized the critical role of government communication, especially during crises. Accurate and timely information is essential to reduce panic and foster understanding. The collaboration with media is vital for conveying factual information and combating misinformation, particularly on social media platforms.

Ms. Supamas invited media representatives to share their experiences from past crises, such as the energy crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, to improve current communication strategies. She stressed the need to blend the credibility of mainstream media with the speed of online platforms to deliver accurate and timely information.

The meeting underscored the importance of preventing public panic through clear communication. Past incidents, like unnecessary rushes to fill gas tanks, highlighted the need for accurate information dissemination. By gathering feedback from various sectors, the government aims to develop effective crisis communication strategies and build public trust during sensitive situations.
