Bangkok: The government is integrating all sectors to combat drug trafficking comprehensively, while simultaneously strengthening concrete transnational cooperation.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that addressing the drug problem has been elevated to an urgent agenda item of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The government is implementing a comprehensive approach encompassing prevention, suppression, treatment, and rehabilitation, coupled with strict law enforcement. Furthermore, the public is being encouraged to participate in monitoring and reporting information through the Narcotics Suppression Bureau hotline 1386.
The results of operations during the first six months of fiscal year 2026 reflect tangible progress in implementing government policies. More than 150,000 drug cases were prosecuted, resulting in the seizure of over 796 million methamphetamine pills and approximately 25 tons of crystal methamphetamine. Furthermore, 139 major drug trafficking networks were dismantled, and assets worth over 9,156 million baht were seized and frozen.
Meanwhile, the government also prioritizes addressing the social dimension of drug abuse, having already brought over 79,000 drug users into treatment and implementing rehabilitation programs for more than 4.5 million young people nationwide to prevent them from falling into the drug cycle in the long term (data as of April 23, 2026).
Furthermore, the government has stepped up efforts to address transnational drug trafficking through proactive intelligence gathering and strengthened international cooperation, including the integration of security agencies. This has driven intensive intelligence gathering, investigation, and law enforcement efforts, particularly through Thai-Lao cooperation, which has led to the arrest of over 40 targeted suspects recently, reflecting the tangible success of drug interdiction and suppression along the border.
