Government Launches Innovative “Udon Thani Model” for Housing Development

Udon Thani:The government is actively promoting the "Udon Thani Model" as a pioneering approach to allocate funds efficiently for home repairs, ensuring stable and sustainable housing, and enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable groups.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) recently led a delegation to Udon Thani province to advance this initiative. The "Udon Thani Model" focuses on community-centric development, aiming to be a prototype for addressing housing hardships faced by vulnerable and low-income populations across the nation.

Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted the government's allocation of 9,075,000 baht for the fiscal year 2026 through the Community Organization Development Institute (CODI). This funding is dedicated to the "Sufficiency Housing Project," which has successfully repaired and constructed homes for 301 households in Udon Thani.

A significant aspect of the initiative includes addressing the impacts of railway development. This has been achieved by providing land lease agreements from the State Railway of Thailand to the Baan Mankong Rim Rang Rot Fai Housing Cooperative Limited. As a result, 37 households in the Thung Sawang East community have transitioned from squatters to legal tenants, gaining access to safe housing and basic utilities.

The Deputy Spokesperson emphasized that the "Sufficiency Housing Project" is central to the government's efforts to reduce social inequality. The project focuses on helping households with inadequate housing by providing funding for construction materials. Community involvement is crucial, as local volunteers, craftsmen, and administrative organizations collaborate to carry out necessary repairs and construction.

The "Udon Thani Model" not only aims to build homes but also to foster community security and improve living conditions. The government plans to replicate this model across other provinces, ensuring access to safe and sustainable housing for all vulnerable groups.
