Bangkok: The government insists that COVID-19 can still be controlled, urging the public for strict cooperation to prevent the disease’s spread. The confirmation comes as the number of cases continues to decrease across the country.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, deputy government spokeswoman, shared insights from the Ministry of Public Health, revealing a consistent decline in COVID-19 cases in Thailand. In the 19th week, from May 4 to May 10, 2025, there were 12,543 new infections, a drop from the previous week’s count of 14,349.
From January 1 to May 8, 2025, Thailand registered a total of 41,197 COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths. This figure is significantly lower than the same period in 2024, when the nation recorded more than 700,000 cases. Despite the decrease, COVID-19 has become an endemic disease, particularly prevalent during the rainy season and at the start of the school term, necessitating strict adherence to disease prevention measures.
The government has provided several health care recommendations to curb the spread of COVID-19. These include washing hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol gel with a concentration of at least 70%, wearing masks in crowded places, eating freshly cooked food with personal utensils, and isolating when experiencing symptoms like fever, cough, or sore throat. In cases of severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, immediate medical consultation is advised.
Ms. Sasikarn emphasized the importance of public cooperation in following these measures, especially among high-risk groups such as the elderly, people with underlying conditions, young children, and pregnant women. For further information or inquiries, the Department of Disease Control’s hotline is available at 1422, operating 24 hours a day.
