Bangkok: The government has accepted five proposals from the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), focusing on energy and wage reforms, while also providing clarity on the controversial MOU 44 issue. The government's spokesperson expressed gratitude to PAD for representing the people's voice, affirming the administration's commitment to listening and addressing public concerns.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, received a petition at Government House from the Network of Students and People for Thailand Reform (NSPR), the Labor Network, and the Farmers Network. The spokesperson acknowledged the efforts of PAD and the Thai Labor Solidarity Network (TLSN) in conveying the concerns of citizens, assuring that the government is attentive to all issues raised through various channels and will report on resolutions.
Regarding the MOU44, the government has clarified the direction of its implementation. Measures will be taken to alleviate public and worker hardships by reducing expenses. Plans are in place to develop an Entertainment Complex as a revenue source and tourism booster, explicitly excluding casinos. Security considerations will involve collaboration with relevant agencies, the Ministry of Defence, local residents, and foreign policy considerations.
The government pledged to expedite problem resolution and ease public suffering, with explanations provided for any issues that cannot be immediately addressed. Continuous collaboration with civil society networks is essential for reflecting the people's voices.
The five proposals from PAD include urgent restructuring of the energy system prioritizing national security, cancellation of Thailand-Cambodia Agreements MOU43 and MOU44, accelerated wage structure reforms for sufficient livelihood wages, reforms to state-owned enterprises in public utilities to improve efficiency without privatization, and reforms to the justice system based on rule of law and equality.
