Hat yai: The Government Savings Bank (GSB) is actively assisting flood victims in Hat Yai, providing initial relief supplies and supporting a food pantry with a total contribution of 2.4 million baht, while preparing to launch further relief and rehabilitation initiatives.
According to Thai News Agency, the Government Savings Bank (GSB) is expediting relief efforts for individuals affected by severe flooding in various southern provinces, including Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, and Surat Thani. The Hat Yai District, specifically Songkhla Province, is currently facing extensive flooding. The bank has dedicated a budget of 2.4 million baht for initial relief efforts. This includes distributing 4,500 “Caring Bags from the Heart of GSB,” which contain essential consumer goods and food ingredients for those displaced at evacuation centers in Khuan Lang Municipality, Khlong Hae Municipality, and Kho Hong Municipality in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. These areas are currently dealing with severe flooding, power outages, and food shortages.
The initial round of relief supplies was delivered to Khuan Lang Municipality. Ms. Nattareeya Thaweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and a member of the Government Savings Bank Board, along with Ms. Pornuthai Somphong, Assistant Director of Branch Operations 6 for the southern region, joined executives and staff as representatives for the delivery. Mr. Somboon Panyathanakorn, Mayor of Khuan Lang Municipality, also participated in the delivery, with Mr. Thiamek Talwanli, Deputy Mayor of Khuan Lang Municipality, receiving the aid to further distribute assistance to two municipalities.
The bank is extending its relief measures in the region and preparing the next phase of support for its customers. These measures will include immediate relief, financial aid, and long-term rehabilitation efforts to help residents return to normalcy, reinforcing the bank’s role as a social institution committed to supporting communities in every situation.
