Bangkok: The government is preparing to hold an awards ceremony for the SEA Games on December 26th at the Indoor Stadium, Hua Mak, to honor Thai athletes who secured the highest number of gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games. The total prize money allocated for this event exceeds 482 million baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, along with the Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund, to organize this awards ceremony and congratulatory event. Deputy Prime Minister Thamanat Promphao has been appointed to oversee the ceremony, scheduled from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on December 26th.
The National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) will handle the distribution of prize money, adhering to the “Criteria, Methods, and Conditions for Awarding Prize Money to Athletes, Sports Personnel, and Sports Associations of Thailand, B.E. 2562 (2019).” The prize money is set at 300,000 baht for each gold medal, 150,000 baht for each silver medal, and 75,000 baht for each bronze medal. Payments will be processed through online bank transfers via KTB Online.
The prize distribution extends to coaches and sports associations. Individual or team coaches (up to six people) will receive 20% of the prize money, team athletes (seven or more people) will receive 10% of the athlete’s prize money, and sports associations will receive 30% of the athlete’s prize money, capped at six million baht.
Thai athletes excelled at the SEA Games, amassing 233 gold medals, 154 silver medals, and 112 bronze medals, totaling 499 medals. Sports such as Boxing, Jujitsu, Athletics, Rowing, Muay Thai, Aquatics, Cycling, Taekwondo, and Weightlifting were among the top earners in prize money distribution.
