Government Vows Comprehensive Strategy to Combat Air Pollution in Northern Thailand

Chiang mai: The government is ready to provide all necessary resources to restore clean air to the people. The Prime Minister emphasized a strategy combining technology and law to revive the economy and restore clean air for the people, reiterating that the government is ready to support all mechanisms to resolve the air pollution crisis in northern Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul stated at a meeting of the Forward Operating Center for Forest Fire, Haze, and Dust Pollution Prevention and Mitigation, Region 3, held at the 7th Infantry Division headquarters in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, that the current Cabinet understands the long-standing problem of forest fires and PM2.5 pollution in the upper northern region. Although the problem stems from weather conditions, low pressure systems, and burning in neighboring countries, making it difficult to control, the government has a strategy to address forest fires, prioritizing controllable aspects first, particularly local burning, which accounts for two-thirds of the problem. For the remaining natural factors, technology and scientific principles will be used to manage the situation.

The government confirms its readiness to provide all necessary resources, including tools, equipment, and personnel for public health, to systematically address the problem. It is prepared to support all missions so that all officials can dedicate themselves to the same goal: restoring a good quality of life for the people.

Field investigations have revealed that air pollution severely impacts people's livelihoods, hindering economic growth in upper northern Thailand. If the situation continues, it will affect tourist and investor confidence, inevitably leading to hardship for local residents. Therefore, all ministries and administrative authorities have been instructed to integrate their efforts closely and utilize technology and research findings to address the problem more accurately and effectively. The armed forces and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) have also been ordered to strictly and decisively enforce legal measures in the area, managing the problem with seriousness and resolve, prioritizing the well-being of the people.
