Bangkok: The one-month debt resolution event has successfully mediated over 1,000 cases, marking a significant stride in the government's efforts to tackle household debt. Citizens have seen a reduction in their debt burden by over 171 million baht, and 947 guarantors for student loans have been released from custody.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized that under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership, the government prioritizes resolving household debt issues, a crucial factor in economic recovery and quality of life improvement. This initiative is executed through the "Household Debt Resolution and Justice for the People Fair" project, which involves the Ministry of Justice, government agencies, financial institutions, and partner networks nationwide to provide citizens access to debt mediation, restructuring, and legal assistance.
Ms. Lalida highlighted the success of the 16th Household Debt Resolution and Public Justice Fair held in Nakhon Pathom on June 26, 2026. The event, attended by 1,579 people, saw 1,232 debtors enter the mediation process, with all participants successfully mediated, achieving a 100% success rate.
The operation addressed a total debt of over 179.93 million baht, alleviating more than 171.44 million baht in financial burdens. It also relieved 947 Student Loan Fund (SLF) guarantors, easing their financial load and fostering economic opportunities for families.
The Deputy Spokesperson added that the event offered debt mediation services before and after litigation, legal advice, rights and benefits assistance, and justice system access. This comprehensive approach aims to help citizens resolve debt issues, minimize enforcement process risks, and boost economic recovery opportunities.
Ms. Lalida expressed the government's commitment to addressing household debt, as reducing these burdens opens avenues for recovery. The Household Debt Resolution and Public Justice Fair plays a vital role in facilitating debt mediation, restructuring, and fair legal assistance, with plans to expand the initiative for greater economic stability and improved living conditions across all regions.
