Roi et: The Governor of Roi Et led a team dressed in a "Maha Wessantara" theme to hold a meeting regarding the Phawaed merit-making ceremony.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchawal Benjasiriwong, Governor of Roi Et Province, brought a unique touch to the meeting preparing for the 2026 'Bun Pha Wet Roi Et' festival by dressing up as "Chuchok" from the 'Maha Wessantara Jataka.' His deputies, Mr. Pichaiya Turasong and Mrs. Pranee Wongbut, participated as Kanha and Chali, respectively.
Heads of government departments, district chiefs, provincial police commanders, and public health officials followed suit, dressing in the Vessantara Jataka theme, transforming the typically serious meeting into a lively and colorful event.
The Governor announced that the 2026 Bun Pha Wetsanulok festival, a significant cultural event for Roi Et, will be held from March 6th to 8th. The festival will include activities such as a Vessantara Jataka procession, a recitation of the Maha Chat epic, and performances showcasing Isaan's folk arts and culture.
Mr. Chatchawal highlighted plans to present the festival internationally, with an enhanced variety of activities. The depiction of Phra Wessantara's procession will be updated, and the character Chuchok will be portrayed in a new light, emphasizing compassion and generosity.
Mr. Chatchawal noted that his approach was not just for attention. He recalled his time as deputy governor of Phetchabun, where he gained attention by performing a traditional Thai song and demonstrating his vocal abilities.
