Bangkok: The Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025 has officially kicked off at Sanam Luang, welcoming tourists with a plethora of activities. This evening, the festival will feature a grand Songkran parade as its highlight. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), conducted an inspection to ensure everything was ready for the official opening ceremony. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, alongside the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, the presenter of the ‘Happiness Immediately at Traveling in Thailand’ campaign, extend an invitation to the public and tourists to attend this year’s grand Songkran festival.
According to Thai News Agency, the event at Sanam Luang offers visitors the opportunity to engage in water play activities, with a water refill point available for free refills throughout the day. The festival will run for five days, until April 15, from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Visitors can enjoy cultural performances, concerts by renowned artists on the main stage, traditional Thai temple fair entertainment, and explore the Thai charm zone. Additionally, the festival features five must-do activities in Thailand, including making and tasting Thai desserts, witnessing Thai boxing practice, and exploring local products from five regions, all aimed at highlighting Thai heritage and promoting Thailand as one of the top 10 festival destinations worldwide.
Before the evening’s official opening ceremony, the main attraction will be the Songkran parade in carnival style, showcasing the beauty of Thai culture. The parade, themed THAINESSICONIC, will feature over 500 performers and will commence at 5:30 p.m. The route spans from Democracy Monument to Ratchadamnoen Avenue, concluding at Sanam Luang.
For the duration of the five-day festival, TAT is offering free shuttle services for tourists attending the event from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily. The shuttle routes include MRT Sanam Chai Station to Sanam Luang and Central Pinklao to Sanam Luang.
