Chiang mai: A 66-year-old grandmother from Lampang province experienced a heartbreaking turn of events at Chiang Mai Airport when her hopes for a final romance were revealed to be an artificial intelligence deception. Officials are now urgently reaching out to her family to ensure her safe return and care.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident came to light when Chiang Mai Tourist Police, in collaboration with Chiang Mai Airport security, received a report about the elderly woman, who was found waiting alone at the airport terminal on September 16th. She had traveled in hopes of meeting a man named "Chai," who she believed to be a pilot, only to discover that he was an AI-generated character on Facebook.

The woman, who primarily communicates in a tribal language, had journeyed by bus from her hometown in Lampang to Chiang Mai and then taken a taxi to the airport. The confusion surrounding her travel plans was compounded by her language barriers, making communication challenging for the officials trying to assist her.

Authorities quickly contacted her son, who was unaware of her travels, to inform him of the situation. In the meantime, officials provided the elderly woman with immediate care, including food, water, and a temporary resting place at the airport. Coordinated efforts between the tourist police and airport security ensured her safe return to her hometown, where her family could take over her care.
