Gun Jomlang Assists Conscript Soldier; Navy Orders Immediate Detention

Bangkok: Gun Jomlang helped a conscript soldier who was punished by being forced to grill a boat, resulting in blisters. The Navy took action, ordering him confined for 7 days.

According to Thai News Agency, Gun Jompalang posted a story on his page, "Gun Jompalang Helps Fight," about a navy soldier who was punished. The family sent him the story and photos, seeking help. The images showed wounds from being "roasted" on a hot iron plate on the ship, resulting in blisters and oozing fluid.

Gun Jompalang stated that the punished soldier was a conscript who was ordered to remove his shirt and have his chest pressed against the hot iron floor of the ship. When the surface cooled, he was ordered to move to another spot. Despite attempts to stop him, he was not, resulting in severe burns all over his body. He was also ordered to remain on the ship from February until April. Although he had submitted a leave request and had only been out for half a day, when photos of his injuries surfaced and he came to see Gun Jompalang, his leave was revoked, and he was ordered to return immediately. This was despite his intention to visit his parents in Phitsanulok province, whom he hadn't seen for over eight months, and his father, who is suffering from end-stage kidney disease. Gun Jompalang therefore coordinated with senior officials in the Navy to help the soldier obtain leave and arrange for his return to his family as planned.

Regarding the Royal Thai Navy, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, the Navy spokesperson, revealed that the Navy was not ignoring the matter and had ordered the relevant unit to conduct an urgent investigation into the facts. This morning (April 5, 2026), the investigation committee concluded that there were inappropriate actions and excessive use of force, violating the orders and policies of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, who clearly stated that no punishment or violent treatment of personnel is permitted. Therefore, disciplinary action has been taken against the offender, with an order to confine them for 7 days, effective today (April 5, 2026).
