Gunman in MP Kamolsak Shooting Transferred to Narathiwat for Further Investigation

Bangkok: The gunman who shot MP Kamolsak has been flown to Narathiwat for further questioning as authorities intensify their investigation into the attack. The suspect, Captain Viroj, was escorted by police onto a plane to the Narathiwat Provincial Police Headquarters, remaining silent when asked about the orchestrators of the attack.

According to Thai News Agency, Captain Viroj, who is accused of shooting Kamolsak Leewamae, a Member of Parliament from Narathiwat Province representing the Prachachart Party, was arrested and brought to the Metropolitan Police Investigation Bureau for questioning. Late last night, he was detained at Phaya Thai Police Station under close protection. Early this morning, he was transported back to the Metropolitan Police Investigation Bureau for further questioning and preparations, including being provided with a bulletproof vest.

The suspect was then escorted by a police convoy to Don Mueang Airport at 8:00 AM, where he boarded a plane to Narathiwat Province. Throughout the transfer, he refused to answer questions from reporters. Investigators from the Narathiwat Provincial Police were prepared to receive him upon arrival for additional questioning and investigation at the Narathiwat City Police Station. Captain Viroj is expected to be remanded in custody the following day.

During initial questioning, Captain Viroj confessed to the shooting, mentioning his acquaintance with Mr. Somporn, another suspect, who informed him about the planned attack. However, he claimed ignorance regarding the identity of the attack's orchestrators. He admitted to spending a month in Narathiwat Province leading up to the incident and borrowing cars from a military officer associated with the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), though no link has been established between them.
