Hailstorm Batters Kamphaeng Phet Province in Unprecedented Weather Event

Kamphaeng phet: A hailstorm, the worst in 40 years, hit Kamphaeng Phet. Residents collected the hailstones and frozen them as souvenirs. Officials are urgently assessing the damage.

According to Thai News Agency, a severe thunderstorm with heavy hailstones battered Kosamphinakhon District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, affecting several sub-districts last night. Facebook users "Supoj Kampranphan" and "May Wongong" shared videos depicting large hailstones falling continuously, covering the ground in white. The users also shared images of themselves collecting hailstones in plastic jugs, captioned "The heaviest hailstorm in 40 years."

A reporter interviewed Mr. Supoj, 44, from Lan Dok Mai Tok Subdistrict, who shared his account of the storm. He described never having witnessed such a severe hailstorm before. Prior to the storm, he noticed very strong winds and promptly secured his belongings. Around 9 PM, heavy hailstones fell for more than five minutes, followed by rain. Villagers collected the hailstones and froze them as souvenirs, while officials have been working urgently to assess the damage.

Initially, no injuries or damage to houses were reported. Relevant authorities are set to conduct a detailed investigation of the affected area.
