Bangkok: Reasons have been disclosed as to why the "Half-Price Plus" scheme was not submitted to the Cabinet this week, despite assurances of budget approval. "Paradorn" explained that the delay is due to the postponement of the Economic Cabinet meeting, as key ministers are occupied with overseas commitments. He assured that budget allocation is certain and expressed confidence in the government's ability to manage the scheme.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Paradorn Prisnanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and supervisor of the Budget Bureau, also addressed the "Old Car for New Car" project. This initiative aims to support the transition to clean energy, but it is not anticipated to be discussed at the current Cabinet meeting. The Ministry of Finance is still in the process of reviewing its details.
Regarding potential electricity subsidies for vulnerable groups, Mr. Paradorn indicated a tiered system is in consideration. Consumers using less electricity currently pay around 2 baht per unit, and the relevant agencies may adjust the tariff tiers. These changes are expected to start in June, following the expiration of current measures in May.
Mr. Paradorn further clarified that the "Half-Price Plus" project has been delayed due to the absence of the Economic Cabinet meeting. This postponement is linked to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas's recent return from abroad. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the delay is unrelated to budget availability. The government has multiple strategies to ensure the scheme's implementation, including enacting a budget transfer act and utilizing emergency central funds.
