Washington: Four communities in Hat Yai Municipality have been placed under a “yellow flag” alert, urging residents to closely monitor water levels in canals, reservoirs, and retention ponds following two days of heavy rainfall.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the Hat Yai Municipality Flood Prevention and Mitigation Center in Songkhla Province has issued Statement No. 6 regarding the flood situation in Hat Yai Municipality. The statement indicates that due to heavy rainfall during the late night hours of last night (December 17, 2025) and continuing until now, the accumulated rainfall at the Khlong Mae Rian flood control station measured 140 millimeters. This has resulted in rising water levels in Khlong Mae Rian and Khlong Hoi Khong. It is anticipated that rainfall will continue in the area throughout the afternoon and evening.
The water levels in various canals today (data as of 12:00 PM) are as follows: Khlong U-Tapao is 5.22 meters below the bank at Ban Muang Kong and 5.15 meters below the bank at Ban Bang Sala. Khlong Wha is 2.98 meters below the bank, Khlong Toei is 3.00 meters below the bank, and Khlong Rian Retention Pond is 1.93 meters below the bank. The Khlong Sadao Reservoir is reported to contain 53.82 million cubic meters of water, which is 94.86% of the reservoir’s capacity.
The spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office stated that, due to the situation, the Flood Prevention and Mitigation Center of Hat Yai Municipality has raised the flood alert level to “Yellow Flag” in the following areas: 30 Meter Road, Suphasan Rangsan Road, Thammanoonvithi Road, Prachathipat Road, and their side streets, as well as the Chan Wirot, Chan Prateep, Chan Niwet, and Ratanawibul communities. Residents in these areas are urged to prepare themselves and closely monitor the situation from Hat Yai Municipality for their safety and property protection.
Mr. Siripong assured that all relevant agencies are fully prepared to handle any potential situation, closely monitoring and tracking developments to ensure a timely response and effective assistance to the public.
