Los angeles: The competition for the prestigious "Adidas Golden Boot" award, which will be given to the top scorer of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is heating up. Recently, Kai Havertz, the German national team forward, and Yassin Ayari, the talented midfielder of the Swedish national team, have moved up to match Folarin Balogun, the US national team striker, as the leading group in the tournament's top scorer list.
According to Thai News Agency, AS Monaco striker Balogun made a stunning debut by scoring two goals in the first half, helping the co-hosts USA comfortably defeat Paraguay 4-1 in their opening Group D match at Los Angeles Stadium. This victory also made him the first American player in almost a century to score more than one goal in a World Cup final tournament, a feat not achieved since 1930.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz, the Arsenal star, scored a brace to help Germany thrash newcomers Cura§ao 7-1 in their opening Group E match in Houston on June 14th. On the same day, Yasin Ayari also became the hero, scoring two stunning goals to lead Sweden to a resounding 5-1 victory over Tunisia.
However, with the competition expanding to 48 teams, many nations have yet to play their first match. Therefore, the battle for the World Cup's top scorer title will undoubtedly continue in the coming weeks, with even more intense competition.
