Healthcare Accreditation Institute Celebrates 17 Years of Elevating Thai Standards to Global Levels

Bangkok: Celebrating 17 years, the Healthcare Accreditation Institute (HA) continues to elevate Thai healthcare standards to international levels with a focus on "spirit and safety." The institute is committed to ensuring quality healthcare facilities and patient safety.

According to Thai News Agency, the institute commemorated its 17th anniversary on June 22, 2026, with the theme "17 Years of HA: Elevating HA Standards from Thai Pride to International Trust." A seminar titled "HA Next Generation 2030: Upgrading HA Standards from Thai Pride to International Trust" was part of the celebrations.

Dr. Anuwat Supachutikul, a senior expert at the institute, revealed his involvement in drafting hospital standards by compiling work from four countries to develop Thai standards in 1995. Initially challenging to implement, these standards led to a pilot program in 35 hospitals by 1997. The development was based on principles such as site visits, learning processes, and integrity, focusing on quality and safety in patient care and management.

Dr. Duangsorn Boonpadung, another senior expert, noted that the lack of resources in the early days allowed HA to observe the pressures faced by staff in meeting standards. This led to a focus on quality standards and work processes, culminating in the theme "Quality, Value, and Ethics," which promotes a strong sense of ethics among healthcare professionals.

Associate Professor Dr. Chakrawut Maneerith emphasized how HA standards prompted learning and improvement, fostering a culture of quality in hospitals. Hospitals have been motivated to strive for higher standards, resulting in superior medical services and positive patient outcomes.

Dr. Jinda Rojanamethin, Director of Rajavithi Hospital, highlighted the importance of the accreditation process in creating organizational value. Despite limited resources, the hospital has seen improvements in patient care and safety, demonstrating the effectiveness of the HA accreditation.

Dr. Athirat Jarukitpipat, CEO of Bumrungrad Hospital, stated that HA's quality certifications have brought international recognition. With a focus on patient safety and quality, Bumrungrad Hospital continuously develops its standards, aiming to be a leading medical center in Asia.

Dr. Piyawan Limpanyalerd, Director of the Healthcare Accreditation Institute, explained that HA's mission is to improve the healthcare system for the public's benefit. Despite being a public organization, HA strives for systematic development to achieve quality services. The institute encourages hospitals to use accreditation standards for management and development.

The HA's standards, processes, and organization are internationally certified, and the institute aims to leverage this strength to enhance Thailand's healthcare system's credibility and trust globally. The commitment to routine excellence, open communication, and diligent practice review remains central to HA's mission.
