Heart Valve Disease Symptoms and New Non-Surgical Treatment Option Highlighted

Bangkok: If you experience symptoms such as easy fatigue and discomfort when lying on your back, you may be at risk of heart valve disease. A new treatment option, "TAVI," offers an innovative non-surgical heart valve repair procedure.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Suwanich Tiemcharnchuchai, Director of Vimut Hospital and a cardiology specialist at the Cardiovascular Center, explains that heart valve disease is often referred to as a silent killer. The initial symptom of this condition is unexplained fatigue or weakness, which can be easily underestimated. If left untreated, the disease can progress and result in severe complications.

Valvular heart disease involves a malfunction of the heart valves, which can lead to backward blood flow or obstructions, forcing the heart to work harder. This condition often develops slowly, allowing the body to compensate in the early stages, making it difficult to detect until it becomes severe. Heart valve disease can affect individuals of all ages, with causes ranging from congenital abnormalities in young children to age-related degeneration in adults and the elderly.

Individuals with underlying conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol are at an increased risk of developing heart valve disease. It is advised that people begin monitoring their health from the age of 35, as early detection can reduce disease severity and facilitate effective treatment plans. Regular heart checkups, even in the absence of symptoms, are recommended, utilizing key diagnostic steps such as chest X-rays, electrocardiograms, cardiac ultrasounds, and exercise stress tests on a treadmill.
