Bangkok: A tragic incident unfolded as a blind father, fleeing his drug-addicted son, was found dead in a canal after being missing for four days. The body of 53-year-old Mr. Sopha was discovered in a state of decomposition, raising suspicions about the circumstances leading to his demise. Villagers reported seeing his son escorting him to withdraw disability benefits multiple times before his disappearance, casting a shadow of doubt on the son's involvement.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sopha, who was visually impaired in one eye, disappeared from his home in Si Thep District. His sudden absence prompted a search operation by his relatives and villagers. His wife disclosed that Mr. Sopha had been exhibiting signs of paranoia, fearing physical harm or extortion by his son, 28-year-old Nattapol, who has a history of drug abuse.

The discovery of Mr. Sopha's body occurred at around 6:10 AM when villagers and the assistant village headman of Moo 5, Ban Sri Thep Noi, detected a foul odor from a canal approximately 3 kilometers from his home. The body, found face down and partially clothed, bore wounds on the arms and legs, the origins of which remain unidentified. Rescue workers retrieved the remains, noting the advanced state of decomposition.

Reporters visiting the deceased's residence found it demolished, with Nattapol having sold parts of the house for money. Nattapol, found sleeping in the kitchen area, denied harming his father, claiming he only teased him playfully. He avoided answering questions about his father's disappearance and the subsequent discovery of his body.

Villagers expressed disbelief that Mr. Sopha could have reached the canal unaided due to his poor eyesight. They further reported seeing Nattapol carrying his father's bag on the day he disappeared, with only 800 baht remaining. Despite the suspicious circumstances, the family initially did not question the cause of death.

For transparency and legal clarity, Si Thep Police Station has transferred Mr. Sopha's body to Si Thep Hospital. A detailed autopsy will be conducted at Phetchabun Hospital to ascertain the cause of death and ensure justice is served if foul play is detected.
