Miami: Firefighters continued their battle against a massive wildfire in the Everglades, a large natural wetland area in southern Florida, for a second day yesterday. Helicopters were deployed to drop water to control the blaze amidst thick smoke.
According to Thai News Agency, the Florida Forest Service revealed that the fire has burned more than 27,500 acres west of Broward County. Currently, officials from multiple agencies have contained approximately 40 percent of the blaze and are working diligently to slow its spread.
Last night, officials rushed to construct a protective barrier around the Holly Lake prefabricated community to protect approximately 650 homes from danger. Authorities also announced the closure of nearby roads and Everglades Holiday Park, and warned residents to be vigilant and prepare for deteriorating air quality. However, weather forecasters predict that rain is possible in the coming days, which would be a key factor in helping officials better control the situation.
