Bangkok: The high-speed rail project intended to connect three major airports has faced a significant delay, now extending to seven years and spanning across five different government administrations. The Transport Minister recently expressed his willingness to support the advancement of the project; however, he opposed the proposed amendment to the contract that suggests a “build and pay as you go” approach.
According to Thai News Agency, experts from the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) have suggested that the government should undertake a thorough review of the existing contract. This recommendation comes amidst ongoing debates on how to best proceed with the stalled infrastructure project, which is seen as crucial for enhancing connectivity and boosting the country’s transportation capabilities.
The lack of progress on this project raises concerns over potential economic impacts and missed opportunities for development. The continued delay highlights the complexities involved in executing large-scale infrastructure projects and the necessity for clear strategies and efficient decision-making processes.
