Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed the discovery of human remains on the Mayuree Naree, a cargo ship, and is urgently working to identify them. The discovery has been communicated to the families of the three missing Thai crew members.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry provided an update regarding the three Thai crew members on the Thai-flagged cargo ship "Mayuree Naree," which experienced an incident while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on March 11, 2026. The Ministry had initially informed the media of the situation on March 30, 2026, and has continued to monitor and update the public on developments.
Today, the Ministry was informed by Precious Shipping, the vessel's owner, that a specialized search and rescue team boarded the ship for a second time to search for the crew members. The team inspected all accessible areas, despite significant damage from fire and flooding in the engine room and other sections. Human remains were found in the damaged areas, but identification has not yet been confirmed. Families of the crew members have been informed of this progress.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed regret over this situation and will coordinate with the relevant Thai Embassy, Iranian authorities, and other agencies to confirm the identity of the remains as quickly as possible. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
The Ministry urges all involved parties to return to negotiation and diplomatic processes to resolve tensions, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, ensuring the safety of civilians and the safe passage of goods through the Strait of Hormuz.
