Husband Seeks Justice for Teacher Por’s Tragic Death Amid Financial Misconduct Investigation

Chiang mai: The husband of Teacher Por is calling for justice following her tragic death, while the school principal claims stress from a financial investigation as a contributing factor.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded when Police Inspector Ton, Teacher Por's husband, publicly declared that his wife did not suffer from any mental health issues. He described her as a positive and well-liked individual, with no signs of depression. Inspector Ton mentioned that prior to her death, Teacher Por had been assigned financial-related tasks. On the day of her passing, she attended a meeting with the school principal before leaving the school. Inspector Ton urged those in the Thai education sector to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and not remain silent, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the truth.

Mr. Therdkiat Yamsopa, Director of the Chiang Mai Secondary Educational Service Area Office, reported that the school principal attributed the stress to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving losses exceeding 1 million baht. On January 26th, the principal was summoned for a meeting and an investigation was initiated, which remains active. The Secondary Educational Service Area Office is conducting its own investigation into the principal and plans to establish a committee to investigate all parties involved. The social media post by Teacher Por's boyfriend, a police officer, was described as potentially incomplete and one-sided. The office is committed to ensuring fairness throughout the investigation process.

Mr. Pichet Phophakdee, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), acknowledged the situation and tasked Mr. Trin Kandokmai, Director of the Center for Happiness and Safety Management, along with legal officers and a working team, to promptly investigate the facts. He extended condolences to Teacher Por's family and promised a fair, transparent, and prudent handling of the case. Mr. Phophakdee also highlighted ongoing efforts to reduce teachers' workloads and improve morale. Once the investigation is concluded, appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with established procedures.
