Hydroponic Model Launched for Drug Rehabilitation and Societal Reintegration

Buriram: A hydroponic vegetable growing model has been launched as a prototype for the rehabilitation of drug addicts, spearheading a new approach to prevent relapse and reintegrate offenders into society. Mr. Sophon Saram, President of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives, revealed that the government is promoting vocational skills and income generation through this initiative.

According to Thai News Agency, this model aims to enable individuals to regain their significance within their families and communities and reintegrate into society with dignity. Under the theme "Cooperation, Understanding, Opportunity, Anew Beginnings, and Returning Good People to Society," the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Buriram Provincial Learning Promotion Office, led by Mr. Piyawit Cherdklang, and the Phutthaisong District Learning Promotion Center, led by Mr. Sathian Butsingh. These organizations conducted both hydroponic and soil-based vegetable cultivation courses for drug rehabilitation patients at the Mini Thanyarak Center (Baan Tawan Thaosaeng) of Phutthaisong Hospital.

Dr. Thawatchai Makmon, Director of Phutthaisong Hospital, supervised the activities, while the Anattapol Saram (Luk Teng) Foundation contributed 100,000 baht in funding to Na Pho District to further support the creation of a drug-free Thai society. Mr. Sophon noted that the hydroponic vegetable cultivation training course offers rehabilitation participants a viable career path that aligns with the demands of the modern agricultural market.

By equipping individuals with practical agricultural skills, the initiative seeks to provide stable income opportunities, allowing participants to engage in honest work and improve their quality of life. This approach is intended to help individuals reintegrate into their families and society with dignity and respect, fostering strong and sustainable lives free from criminal relapse.
