Ice Responds to Professor’s Insults with Defiance and Questions for NIDA

Bangkok: Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, known as Ice, has fired back at a professor from the Faculty of Applied Statistics at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) after allegedly being insulted and devalued by the academic. The controversy arose when the professor insinuated that Ice's mother was a sex worker, sparking a strong response from the politician.

According to Thai News Agency, Ice took to social media to express the challenges she faces since entering the political arena. She highlighted the derogatory names and accusations directed at her, including being called a "skoy," a derogatory term, and facing allegations of being involved in the sex trade. Ice described the digital harassment she endures, including altered photos, AI-generated obscene videos, and fake news intended to tarnish her reputation. She further revealed that these attacks have escalated to physical assault and involved her family members.

In her message, Ice questioned the actions of those who identify as "royalists" and their motivations for engaging in such behavior while professing loyalty to the monarchy. She emphasized the importance of free speech but criticized the crossing of lines into hate speech and personal attacks. Ice argued for constructive debate over personal devaluation and urged for a society built on logic and reasoned arguments.

Ice directed her concerns toward three groups: the executives of NIDA, its alumni and students, and individuals born into disadvantaged circumstances. She questioned NIDA's stance on the behavior of its personnel and urged the institution to address hate speech and the devaluation of individuals. Ice also appealed to NIDA's alumni and current students to reflect on the situation and their institution's response.

Addressing those born into challenging circumstances, Ice expressed empathy and encouragement. She stressed that people cannot choose their birth circumstances but can influence the society they contribute to. Ice urged society to reject contempt and discrimination and to foster understanding and compassion.

Ice concluded by reiterating her support for those in similar situations and emphasized her defiance against the accusations. She expressed disappointment in the behavior of those claiming to protect cherished institutions through such actions.
