Bangkok: The International Federation of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA) has announced the suspension of all boxing activities for the year 2025, with the sole exception being the SEA Games. This decision comes as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, following her passing. Flags at the IFMA headquarters in Bangkok and its office in Lausanne, Switzerland, have been lowered to half-mast in mourning.
According to Thai News Agency, the late Queen Mother dedicated her life to serving the Thai nation and its people, particularly focusing on improving the quality of life for those in remote rural areas, as well as for women and children. Her efforts in preserving cultural heritage and promoting national arts and wisdom have left a lasting impact on future generations.
The IFMA has expressed profound gratitude and respect for Her Majesty’s contributions to education, public health, arts and culture, and social development. In light of her passing, the IFMA has also cancelled the 2025 King’s and Royal Cup, originally scheduled for December 3-5, 2025, in Bangkok. Athletes who were set to compete will receive refunds in accordance with the suspension of events and competitions within Thailand. All other IFMA events in Thailand for the year 2025 are suspended, except for their participation in the SEA Games.
