Nan: "Jaset" and "Permanent Secretary Arsit" have mobilized jet skis, boats, and helicopters to assist with the flooding in Nan. They have issued a warning that the floodwaters will reach Mueang district tomorrow and have ordered maximum preparedness, emphasizing that "there must be no fatalities."
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, chaired a meeting of the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command to monitor the situation and provide assistance following flash floods in Nan Province. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and other key officials. The objective was to prepare for flood and flash flood management in the northern region.
Mr. Jetseth held a conference call with local officials, emphasizing the urgent need to evacuate vulnerable groups and manage requests for assistance. He instructed officers to quickly evacuate at-risk groups and monitor social media for citizen requests, providing immediate assistance. Following the meeting, he directed the Nan Provincial team to proceed to the field to take command of the situation.
Further, Mr. Jetseth instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to dispatch all available jet skis and flat-bottomed boats to Nan Province. A KA32 helicopter was put on standby, and coordination was made with the highway department, police, and local volunteers for urgent deployment of resources, including water purification units and mobile kitchens. The DDPM was also tasked with 24-hour monitoring of the situation, with an anticipation of further impact if rain continues.
Mr. Arsit Sampanrat conveyed instructions from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, ensuring that shelters provide homelike conditions and basic utilities. He urged immediate public warnings and evacuations if water levels rise, stressing that "there must be no fatalities from this flood."
Mr. Banjong Khunphet, Deputy Governor of Nan Province, reported that flash floods have affected three districts in Nan Province, impacting approximately 16,000 people across 35 villages. Roads have been cut off, and ten evacuation centers have been established. Military and disaster relief units are actively assisting those trapped, especially in Ban Rong area, with a prompt evacuation expected.
As the floodwaters are expected to move to Tha Wang Pha District and Mueang Nan District tomorrow, local municipalities have warned residents to elevate belongings and prepare. The Jet Ski Association of Thailand has also dispatched a team to assist in the affected areas.
