Bangkok: The inaugural training session on "Buying a Home Wisely" was launched, highlighting a new proactive approach by the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) aimed at resolving housing issues before they become problematic. Supamas Isarabhakdi has appointed Pradermchai Boonchuaylue to lead this intensive training program, which seeks to address concerns such as housing subsidence and exploitation, fostering a more proactive and preventive stance.
According to Thai News Agency, the event, officially inaugurated by Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, alongside Mr. Pradermchai Boonchuaylue, Advisor to the Minister, took place at the Thammasat Alumni Association under Royal Patronage. The event witnessed participation from government representatives, the real estate sector, developers, and the public, all united in promoting knowledge about home selection and consumer rights awareness.
Mr. Pradermchai emphasized Ms. Supamas's commitment to transforming the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) into a proactive entity that builds confidence in government operations. The focus is on preemptively addressing problems before they escalate, while also ensuring swift, transparent, and trackable resolution of complaints.
Mr. Pradermchai stated, "Today, the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) is not an agency that waits for the public to suffer damage before intervening. Instead, it works proactively to ensure consumers and the general public have confidence that when problems arise, government agencies will respond quickly, and that every step of the process will provide answers to the public. Trust comes from efficient, transparent, and verifiable work."
Additionally, Mr. Pradermchai called upon real estate businesses to enhance construction standards by planning for long-term usability, which could prevent future disputes and reduce litigation. He noted that many past complaints arose not from legal violations, but from issues not yet covered by law, such as inadequate piling in parking areas that could lead to structural damage.
The "Buying a Home Wisely 2026" event focuses on educating the public on various aspects of home buying, including verifying project information, understanding consumer rights, precautions in contract signing, property transfer, and preventing potential issues. The aim is to empower consumers to make informed decisions, reduce exploitation risks, and ensure fair treatment.
The CPB, Mr. Pradermchai stated, stands ready to assist the public, offering a reliable resource for consumers facing exploitation or unfair treatment. Consumers are encouraged to contact the CPB through multiple channels, including the website www.ocpb.go.th, the OCPB Connect application, and the hotline 1166, to ensure swift and transparent justice, aligning with the CPB's new proactive approach.
