Bangkok: The body of a 5-day-old infant who tragically died in the ICU at Ang Thong Hospital has been cremated, leaving behind grieving relatives who are determined to seek justice. The somber cremation ceremony took place today at Wat Sam Ko in Sam Ko District, Ang Thong Province, attended by relatives, local residents, and officials from Ang Thong Hospital, including its director, Ms. Parichat.

According to Thai News Agency, the parents of the infant have expressed their resolve to uncover the truth behind their baby's death. They have vowed to ensure that the case does not close with the cremation, insisting on clarity regarding the circumstances leading to the baby's demise in the ICU. The family is actively gathering evidence to submit to Ang Thong Hospital and the Ministry of Public Health, urging them to establish a committee to thoroughly investigate the incident.

The parents' suspicions were particularly heightened when initial reports attributed the death to a mysterious bloodstream infection. They have since filed a complaint with Ms. Paveena Hongsakul, President of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women, who assisted them in raising concerns with Dr. Taweechok Rojaramkul, the Ang Thong Provincial Public Health Officer. The complaint highlighted potential lapses in the hospital's safety and hygiene protocols, further fueled by revelations of a banquet held within the hospital premises, which breached infection control guidelines.

A committee has been set up to investigate the incident, and a second autopsy conducted at the Police Hospital has revealed additional troubling findings, including a fractured skull and unusual leg injuries. The investigation continues as the family, supported by the public health authorities, seeks answers and accountability for the infant's untimely death.
