Influencer’s Botched Surgery Sparks Dispute Over Refund and Hospital Accountability

Bangkok: A famous female influencer, Sai Mai, has come forward with allegations of a botched nose surgery performed at a renowned plastic surgery hospital. The influencer filed a complaint with Mr. Ekkapop Lueangprasert, founder of the "Saimai Must Survive" Facebook page, after experiencing severe complications following a rhinoplasty procedure. Just a month after the surgery, she developed a nasal infection that exposed the bone inside and led to tissue necrosis, severely impacting her ability to work and conduct daily activities.

According to Thai News Agency, the influencer chose the hospital due to its reputable standing and the involvement of a well-known doctor, which initially gave her confidence in the procedure. She sought a revision surgery after being dissatisfied with previous rhinoplasty results. The hospital provided a lower quote of 400,000 baht for the procedure, compared to other clinics that estimated 750,000 baht. Trusting the hospital's assurances, the influencer proceeded with the surgery.

However, complications arose just a month later, with signs of tissue necrosis and bone exposure. The hospital claimed it was part of the healing process and monitored her condition. Despite six months passing, there was no improvement, and the influencer was advised to continue with a second stage of treatment, which she hesitated to undergo due to the initial surgery's ineffectiveness.

The influencer sought a refund of 400,000 baht to pursue treatment elsewhere, but the hospital initially offered only 20,000 baht. After negotiations, the offer increased to 100,000 baht, which she felt was insufficient for corrective procedures. Frustrated by the hospital's lack of apology and inadequate refund offer, she shared her story on social media, prompting other victims to come forward with similar experiences of complications.

Mr. Ekkapop highlighted the necessity for the hospital to consider the victim's perspective, drawing an analogy with car repair services, where a refund is expected if promised repairs are not fulfilled. He stressed that the hospital should acknowledge the influencer's plight alongside its own perspective. The case is expected to be brought to the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) for further investigation.
