Chiang mai: Chiang Mai is preparing for its World Heritage Site status. Recently, a team of experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) began assessing eight important cultural World Heritage sites in Chiang Mai on the first day of the assessment.

According to Thai News Agency, following yesterday's meeting, the working group from all sectors held a rehearsal to prepare for integrated cooperation, ensuring that the presentation of information to international experts is accurate, complete, and truly reflects Chiang Mai, the capital of Lanna, in its readiness to become a World Heritage Site.

Today, Mr. Rattapol Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai Province, Mr. Pichai Lertpongadisorn, President of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization, and Mr. Bowornwet Rungruji, Chairman of the Working Group for Accelerating Chiang Mai's World Heritage Status, along with heads of government departments and relevant sectors, welcomed Mr. Sharif Shams Imon, an expert from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). They discussed the technical assessment and evaluation methods for Chiang Mai's bid to become a World Heritage City, outlining the details and procedures to ensure a shared understanding and approach.

Before the entire team of experts begins their field survey of Chiang Mai's eight major cultural heritage sites, namely Wat Ched Yot, Wat Umong (Suan Phutthatham), Wat Suan Dok, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Phra Sing Woramahawihan, Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan, and the Chiang Mai city moat and walls, they will inspect these locations between August 4-8.
