International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC said today that the ICRC is in the process of communicating with Hamas. which is a Palestinian and Israeli armed group. in an attempt to negotiate the release of those held hostage to the Gaza Strip.
At least 150 Israelis and foreigners, including soldiers, civilians, children and women, have been held hostage in the Gaza Strip since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday. Sio Carboni, ICRC Regional Director for the Middle East and Near East, said in a statement: As a neutral organization, the ICRC is prepared to send visiting staff for humanitarian purposes. and facilitating communication between those held hostage and their family members. He is also ready to facilitate the release of those held hostage. Carboni said hostage-taking is prohibited under international humanitarian law and anyone detained will be held accountable. They must be released immediately. The ICRC also called on both sides to reduce the suffering of civilians.
Meanwhile According to official sources, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has begun talks with Hamas. In order to have the hostages released as well.
