Iran Conflict Triggers Unprecedented Global Energy Crisis

Paris: The war in Iran is being pointed out to be causing the most severe energy crisis in history. The International Energy Agency (EIA) said today that the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel has created the worst energy crisis the world has ever faced.

According to Thai News Agency, EIA Director Fatih Birol told French radio station France Inter that what is happening is the biggest crisis in history, resulting from a compounding effect of the earlier oil and natural gas crisis stemming from the conflict with Russia. The war in the Middle East has disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for the transport of one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas. This situation arises at a time when gas shipments from Russia to Europe were already cut off due to the war in Ukraine.

Mr. Birol had previously stated that the current situation in the global energy market is more severe than the crises of 1973, 1979, and 2022 combined. Prior to this, in March, the IEA decided to release a record-breaking 400 million barrels of strategic oil reserves to cope with soaring oil prices resulting from the current US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
