Udon thani: Israel's Ambassador to Thailand, Alona Fisher-Kamm, visited the northeastern province of Udon Thani to mark the 72nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and reinforce bilateral cooperation.
According to Thai News Agency, the July 1 visit included the opening of a new playground at the Baan Thung Thong School. The playground features equipment, desks, chairs, and clean water coolers donated by the Israeli Embassy to improve learning environments for the school's 124 students. "Children are our future. I hope this playground and educational equipment will provide a safe, fun, and inspiring environment," Fisher-Kamm said during the ceremony, which was attended by Udon Thani Deputy Governor Jakrapan Janthapoom and local education officials.
Fisher-Kamm also held talks with Udon Thani Governor Rachan Sunhua at the provincial hall to discuss expanding partnerships in agriculture, education, and labor management. Udon Thani is a primary sourcing region for Thai agricultural laborers traveling to Israel.
The diplomatic trip concluded with a visit to the family of Chairat Sanusan, a Thai agricultural worker who was killed near the Gaza border during the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas militants after working in Israel for two years. Fisher-Kamm offered condolences to Chairat's widow and family, noting that the Israeli government has provided monthly compensation to the family under the same framework applied to affected Israeli citizens. "We remember Chairat and all the victims of October 7. Israel stands with you, and we hope you find comfort in knowing you are not alone," Fisher-Kamm told the family.
The ambassador's visit reflects the long-standing, close ties between Israel and Thailand, built on strong friendship, people-to-people relations, and continuous cooperation spanning over seven decades.
