Bangkok: Israel and the United States have launched a joint military operation against Iran to eliminate what the Israeli envoy to Thailand described on Tuesday as a "permanent and existential threat" from the Tehran regime.
According to Thai News Agency, Israeli Ambassador to Thailand Alona Fisher-Kamm stated in a press briefing that the military action was a necessary response to Iran's accelerating nuclear ambitions, long-range ballistic missile development, and its network of regional proxies. The envoy clarified that Israel has no conflict with Iran as a nation but is opposed to the regime that has held power for 47 years.
The operation, as emphasized by the envoy, was strategically timed to exploit the Iranian regime's "weakest point" following the degradation of its regional proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, and the impact of previous strikes on its nuclear infrastructure in June last year. This vulnerability is further compounded by internal civil unrest and a loss of domestic legitimacy within Iran.
Regarding the timeline of the military campaign, the Ambassador stated that the operation "will continue as much as it is necessary" to eliminate the threat from Tehran. While refusing to specify a date for its conclusion, the mission is framed as a "gateway for peace," intended to facilitate a process of regime change in Iran.
Furthermore, the Ambassador noted that Iran had escalated the situation into a regional conflict by targeting 12 countries. She emphasized that neighboring nations had not provoked Iran, yet they faced aggression as Tehran sought to destabilize the region.
Addressing local concerns, the Ambassador provided assurances regarding the safety of the approximately 50,000 Thai workers currently in Israel. She stated that all foreigners are entitled to the same state protections as Israeli citizens, including access to a nationwide network of sirens, shelters, and aerial interception systems. Specialized measures, including emergency hotlines and instructional videos in the Thai language, have been implemented to support the Thai community.
The Ambassador confirmed that Israeli authorities maintain very close contact with the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv and government officials in Bangkok to ensure the welfare of the Thai community as the operation continues.
