Bangkok: Jackson Wang has been appointed as the first global fencing ambassador by the International Fencing Federation. According to Thai News Agency, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jackson Wang, world-renowned artist, businessman, and former Olympic youth fencer, as the organization's first Global Ambassador. Before entering the entertainment industry, Jackson was a member of the Hong Kong national fencing team. He made history by winning a gold medal in the men's saber event at the Asian Junior Fencing Championships, marking Hong Kong's first gold medal in the event. He also won numerous national championships and was ranked number one in Asia in the men's under-17 saber category. Furthermore, he was on track to qualify for the London Olympics, demonstrating his potential as a high-level athlete before deciding to dedicate himself fully to a career in music. Jackson will serve as the first Global Ambassador in the history of the International Fencin g Federation (FIE), leading the effort to promote fencing globally prior to the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic Games. He will represent fencing on the international stage, help publicize key FIE events, and participate in various Olympic-related activities leading up to LA28. This role is not merely that of a typical ambassador, but a link between sport, culture, art, and the continuation of inspiration, based on the shared belief that fencing can inspire generations around the world. Jackson's official appointment as Global Ambassador was unveiled during a signing ceremony at AsiaWorld-Expo Hong Kong, the venue for the FIE Senior World Championships 2026 from July 22-30. At a press conference attended by media representatives from various countries, Jackson and Abdelmoniam Elhusseini, Acting President of the FIE, discussed the partnership and the background of the project. Jackson said, 'Even though I ultimately chose a career in music, fencing has always been a part of my life. As a Global Fencing Ambas sador, my mission is to bring that same energy back to fencing, representing all the athletes on their way to LA28. I want to show the next generation around the world that whether you wield a saber or a microphone, you can pursue your dreams.' In this new role, Jackson will collaborate with FIE to create innovative competition experiences, produce exclusive content, and participate in the organization's global events. He also aims to attract global sponsors and celebrities from diverse fields to help drive the growth of fencing. Acting President Elhusseini stated, 'This agreement is a long-term partnership that connects sports, music, entertainment, and fashion. Jackson has a tremendous influence in drawing young people and celebrities worldwide to fencing. His participation demonstrates that fencing is a modern, stylish, and accessible sport for a younger generation.' Elhusseini further stated, 'Jackson is a bridge between two generations. He has a genuine connection to fencing, while also possessing a c ultural influence that will introduce fencing to a new generation, who have grown up with music, fashion, and an active lifestyle. We are delighted to welcome him as our Global Ambassador and look forward to many more collaborations in the future.' Jackson Wang has been familiar with rigorous training since childhood. He was born into a family of top athletes; his father was a two-time Olympic fencer, and his mother was a former Chinese national gymnast. He began training in saber fencing at the age of 10 and represented Hong Kong at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. He also won numerous national and international championships during his teenage years and was on track to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, having also secured a sports scholarship from Stanford University.
