Kathmandu: Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has called on Nepal to do its utmost to locate and rescue five Japanese nationals who remain unaccounted for following flash floods that hit areas near the country's border with China last week.

According to Thai News Agency, Motegi made the request in a telephone call with his Nepali counterpart, Shisir Khanal, on Monday. The discussion underscored the urgency and importance of international cooperation in disaster response, particularly in challenging terrains affected by natural calamities.

Khanal assured Motegi that the Nepali government would make every effort to locate and rescue those who remain missing, including the five Japanese nationals. He emphasized Nepal's commitment to working closely with the international community, including Japan, to ensure a swift and effective response to the situation.

Motegi further explained that the Japanese government has decided to provide essential relief materials such as blankets and tents. Additionally, Japan is considering extending support through international organizations and the potential dispatch of a Japanese disaster relief team. Khanal expressed gratitude for Japan's support, highlighting the importance of such international aid in enhancing local relief efforts.
