Nagoya:Jenny Supachnin Khamhaeng, representing Thailand in the women's over 86 kg weightlifting category, secured the sixth position in her final event at the 20th Asian Games held in Nagoya, Japan.
According to Thai News Agency, the competition concluded on September 29, 2026, with Thai weightlifters achieving a total of four medals two silver and two bronze. Khamhaeng, competing in both the snatch and clean and jerk disciplines, lifted a total of 241 kilograms. Her snatch lifts included a successful first attempt at 100 kilograms and a third attempt at 105 kilograms. In the clean and jerk, she successfully completed lifts of 128, 133, and 136 kilograms.
The gold medal in Khamhaeng's category was won by Li Wenwen of China, who lifted a total of 310 kilograms. Meanwhile, the Thai team earned its medals through Suraswadi Yodsarn in the women€š¬€ž¢s 57 kg category and Sergeant Weerapol Wichuma in the men€š¬€ž¢s 75 kg category, both winning silver. Corporal Surajana Khambao and Petty Officer Theerapong Silachai each won bronze in their respective categories.
The prize money for Thai medalists, disbursed by the National Sports Development Fund, amounted to 4.5 million baht in total. This sum includes allocations for athletes, the sports association, and coaches. Despite the absence of a gold medal at this event, the Thai team continues to build on its history of success, with the last gold won by Pavina Thongsuk in 2006 in Doha, Qatar.
The Thai weightlifting team is set to return to Thailand on September 30, 2026, via Thai Airways flight TG 645. The flight is scheduled to depart Nagoya at 1100 AM local time and arrive in Thailand by 300 PM the same day.
