Journalist Phutthaphiwan Ongphrabarami Testifies in Donation Investigation

Bangkok:Phutthaphiwan Ongphrabarami, a prominent journalist and news anchor, recently provided testimony to investigators at the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) regarding his donations to the "Do Good" organization. He confirmed transferring over 800,000 baht to the "Good Deeds Foundation" and discussed the potential misuse of these funds.

According to Thai News Agency, Phut affirmed that he had made several donations to the organization since 2015, prompted by various relief efforts, with each contribution ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 baht. He expressed uncertainty about the proper use of the donated funds, although he believed they were used appropriately at the time due to the presence of Boom Panadda, the organization's founder, at various events.

Phut raised concerns about the funds potentially being used for purposes other than intended, such as purchasing land or building pool villas and a shrine reportedly worth over 10 million baht. He urged the authorities to scrutinize the financial activities of the foundation during the transition period of 2025-2026 to ensure transparency.

He emphasized the need for all foundations to provide clear and transparent accounts of their financial transactions, suggesting that this case should serve as a catalyst for increased accountability in the sector. Phut also noted his role as a witness and not as a complainant or victim in the case, highlighting his desire for clarity and truth.

Attorney Nitithorn Kaewto, also known as Lawyer James, explained the legal process, stating that the investigation is a criminal matter and the financial trail is crucial. He mentioned the potential for civil liability if negligence in verifying financial documents is established, regardless of the outcome in the criminal case. Lawyer James refrained from speculating on any conspiracy, pending further investigation into the financial trail.

Phut concluded his interactions with the authorities by expressing his commitment to transparency and accountability in charitable donations, while acknowledging that wrongdoing must be addressed legally.
