Juri Numkaew Excited to Tackle Flooding Issues as Newly Certified MP

Bangkok: "Jurie" is excited to receive her first MP certification and is ready to follow up on funds for house repairs.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Juri Numkaew, Member of Parliament for Constituency 2, Songkhla Province, from the Democrat Party, arrived at the Election Commission office to receive his certificate of membership in the House of Representatives. He revealed that he felt excited, as it was like bringing the votes of over 30,000 people from Songkhla Constituency 2 with him. He also thanked the people of Hat Yai and Khlong U Taphao for helping to create a history of honest politics in this election.

Mr. Juri stated that the election in Songkhla's District 2 was another area that received significant media attention since the registration period and featured fierce competition. Each candidate possessed considerable potential and ability, giving the public a wide range of choices and resulting in intense competition before the public ultimately decided to elect him as their representative.

Regarding the urgent issues that the public has asked him to address, Mr. Juri stated that the main problem in the area remains the flooding in Hat Yai. Although not yet officially recognized, he has been pushing for flood relief measures, which the Election Commission has now approved. However, residents are still awaiting funds for home repairs, which are currently under review before being disbursed. Furthermore, the public expects the government to implement flood prevention measures in Hat Yai before the end of the year, a crucial matter that he must address by speaking on their behalf.

Regarding the Democrat Party's role as the opposition, Mr. Juri believes it is not an obstacle to their work because the opposition can still scrutinize the government and advocate for and push for solutions to the people's grievances. The government itself should recognize that various areas belong to the people, not to any particular political party, and therefore need to allocate budgets to address the problems faced by those affected.

Regarding advice from the party leader, Mr. Jury stated that the party leader has encouraged him in his work as a first-term MP. However, details of his duties have not yet been discussed extensively, and he expects to have further discussions upon reporting to parliament the following day.
