Bangkok: “Kaem Kwan” Chariwan faced a challenging bout against Spain’s Cecilia Castro Burgos, resulting in her elimination in the round of 32 at the Bangkok Taekwondo Championship.
According to Thai News Agency, the match, part of the “Bangkok 2025 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Challenge,” left Chariwan acknowledging her shortcomings in both speed and accuracy. Despite her efforts, the 21-year-old bronze medalist from the 2025 World University Games found herself outmatched, losing 0-2 with scores of 2-9 and 0-6.
Post-match, Chariwan reflected on the experience, noting the diversity of competitors as compared to her previous tournament in China. She expressed her excitement at competing at this level, despite facing issues with concentration and defense. Chariwan admitted that her size in the 67 kg weight class posed a challenge, but she remains optimistic about her upcoming participation in the 33rd SEA Games, where she will aim to rectify past mistakes and improve her performance.
In related news, Asst. Prof. Pimol Srivikorn, known as “Big A,” has been reappointed as Treasurer of the World Taekwondo Federation. During the competition, he received commendations from Dr. Cho Chung Won, the Federation’s President, for Thailand’s organization of the Grand Prix. The President praised the country’s capabilities in hosting international events and expressed confidence in Srivikorn’s continued contributions to the Federation’s administration.
Looking ahead, the competition will see further participation from Thai athletes. Scheduled for November 24th, the event will feature competitors in the women’s 57 kg and men’s 80 kg categories, with a total of eight athletes vying for success on the international stage.
