Kanchanaburi Senior Care Center Ordered to Close After Violations

Bangkok:The Department of Health Service Support (DHSS) has mandated the closure of a senior care center in Tha Muang District for failing to adhere to operational standards and licensing requirements. Legal action is being pursued against the center's owner, a former nurse, for impersonation and illegal activities.

According to Thai News Agency, the DHSS discovered numerous violations during an inspection, prompting the decision to shut down the facility. The center, located in Kanchanaburi Province, was found to be providing services outside its licensed scope, which led to the closure order under Section 28 due to concerns about public morality.

The Department of Mental Health has highlighted that the use of steel cages is not an appropriate practice for managing psychiatric patients. There are over 100 patients at the center, most of whom are aged between 18 to 59, with more than 90% being psychiatric patients. They will undergo a detailed assessment before being relocated to suitable medical facilities.

Dr. Phuwadej Surakhot, Director-General of the DHSS, explained that the closure order will revoke both the business and operator licenses, as the owner and operator are the same individual. The order is expected to be issued immediately, marking a definitive closure rather than a temporary suspension.
